Cheyney Fox

Full-bodied, exciting heroines! All books are great read!I have enjoyed all of the works by Roberta Latow. Unfortunately, my home was torn apart by a hurricane two years ago, and I lost all my books. One of the losses I really regret are my copies of Ms. Latow's works. Worse, they are out of print and I can't seem to retrieve them. Read them if you have the opportunity! You won't be sorry!

No Hay DOS Sin Tres/Try Anything Twice
Published in Paperback by Aims Intl Books (January, 1986)
Average review score:

Amazing! One of the most amazing thrillers I have ever read. The plot conceived by the author is simply mind-blowing. Also it keeps the reader on the edge all the time. The language used and the kind of humor is also commendable. In a nutshell, this is one book worth reading.

A Short History of England
Published in Library Binding by Darby Books (December, 1985)
Average review score:

A must for English HistoriansCheyney's work, though dated, is one of the most comprehensive history books I have ever seen. His detail from the Celts and geography to the reign of George V is remarkable. While many of the "MTV" generation may find it dry and without enough visuals, Cheyney was very precise in choosing which visuals would accentuate the text. He does this masterfully. This text should be updated to the reign of Elizabeth II and required in any British History course. As a teacher, I would strongly recommend every school that desires to give History its proper respect to buy this book for its teachers and libraries. Again, this book gives such rich detail to English History that it proves to be indispensable to any World History or English History class.

Sorry You'Ve Been Troubled (Slim Callaghan Series)
Published in Paperback by Collier Books (May, 1990)
Average review score:

Cheyney writes an enjoyable, intelligent mysterySlim Callaghan is up to his usual tricks, staving off the attention of two gorgeous cousins, Desiree and Manon Gardell. Their uncle, Admiral Gardell, has just been murdered -- or was he a suicide? After a brief mourning period, they hire Slim, hoping he can riddle out their sticky position as beneficiaries of the Admiral's insurance policies. At the same time, Slim is recovering from a nasty beating by Nicky Starata and his oversized henchman, Leon. Nicky is mixed up in a suspicious warehouse fire, and Slim has told his insurance company not to pay the claim. An urbane and nicely-plotted mystery by Cheyney who published 35 novels and passed away in 1951.

Writing: A Way to Pray
Published in Paperback by Loyola Pr (March, 1995)
Average review score:

a must read for those who want to change your prayer lifeI loved this book - for its content, simplicity and hands on application. If you are frustrated with your prayer life or desire to take it to a new dimension this is a "must read". Page by page, the experienced or novice writer is guided from one example to another of new and refreshing ways to approach the prayer closet and communicate with God through scripture. You are left with the experience of the author's own daily "pray wriing"time as well as an abundance of writing examples from which to choose your own approach. Be assured the focus of this book is not on improving written skills but rather to encourage you to put pen to paper in an attitude of prayer.

Ageless Love: The Conviction of Charlotte Grey, Summer Snow, to Dwell in the Land (Ageless Love Series , Vol 1)
Published in Hardcover by Zondervan (April, 1996)
Average review score:

A joyous, lilting little story, with some shadows.Picking up this little gem of an old love story made my day. It covers several years of a young girl's life and takes her from childhood to - well, I mustn't say more. It is a bright, joyous tale of the wooing of a country maiden by a man twice her age, an artist accustomed to the big city life of Atlanta. Juliana's brothers don't want this dark mature stranger from the city in their young sister's life, and they take measures to make sure the two never see each other. There are pitfalls aplenty, Foster Kirk's age being the biggest. Juliana is searching for a meaning in her life. She is a very normal teenager, having more questions than answers. There are pitfalls aplenty as various other family members, and friends of Juliana's and Foster's, join the separating force. A good book to tuck in your bag for that next trip.

The Dawn of a New Era, 1250-1453,
Published in Textbook Binding by HarperCollins (January, 1936)
Average review score:

203 Years of DisquietudeStandard broad history of this era. Generally well-done but several important occurrences of this period insufficiently covered, e.g. Black Death, the Inquisition. I would also be interested in more coverage of the popular insurrections of the time. During this era, towns and organizations of towns for economic/trade benefits arose, nationalism had its beginnings, the Hundred Years War between France and England was intermittently ongoing, with Joan of Arc for the French, the Catholic Church declined and split, heresies continued and the Turks were in the process of taking over the Byzantine Empire. A lot of ground for the author to cover, so ommisions not unexpected.
